PAT - Considerations for Inclusivity and Cultural Safety

For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples globally have cultivated respectful relationships with plants and are the original knowledge holders of their wisdom. Sadly, many original practices were interrupted and fractured due to the atrocities of colonisation. We continue to see the ongoing impacts including inter-generational, trauma and systemic racism. As plant medicine and psychedelics are integrated into the Western medical model, very few companies are in right-relationship, actively consulting with and collaborating with Indigenous peoples or recognising them as the knowledge keepers in this space.

Indigenous Psychedelic Assisted Therapies (IPAT) was formed to ensure Indigenous peoples have a place in the Australian psychedelic ecosystem and advocate for reciprocity through right relationships for Indigenous peoples, knowledge systems, culture, Country and communities. IPAT will also offer consultancy and training for PAT practitioners and researchers, to ensure more cultural safety for Indigenous peoples in order to safely access these treatments.

In this webinar, we will discuss some of the current issues in the psychedelic space that impact accessibility and cultural safety of psychedelic-assisted therapy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and culturally informed models of care and practice that incorporate Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing, and how IPAT can support your practice.

Presenter: Jem Stone
Jem Stone is a First Nations Woman with mixed heritage, educator and wellness practitioner who is passionately integrating original knowledge systems into education and wellness spaces through connection and decolonised learning methods. Working and training in the wellness industry for over twenty years, Jem Stone dedicates much of her time learning from Elders and other cultural teachers and works as a cultural consultant and trainer in psychedelic assisted therapy, academic and wellness spaces.
