Gifted Children

Gifted children: Assessment, characteristics, and myths

In this webinar, Mimi Wellisch discusses giftedness in children, including the definition of giftedness, all around giftedness versus specific giftedness and examples, of how a gifted child may present. There will be suggestions of educational options to include in the assessment report, based on test outcomes, and information on some education policies in the different states and territories.

Participants will learn what characteristics may be recognised in gifted children prior to assessment and the difference between giftedness and autism or ADHD, as well as the concepts of asynchronous development and twice exceptionality.

Some of the widely held myths about giftedness will also be addressed, including giftedness and achievement, overexcitabilities, and neurodiversity.
