AAPi on The Project

Posted on 19 December 2022

AAPi's Director Sahra O’Doherty featured on Channel 10's The Project last night in a segment about the cutting of the Better Access psychology sessions.

"We're worried that the Federal Government is sending a message that mental healthcare is being deprioritised," she said.

"We think a lot of people will now deprioritise seeing a psychologist because of the cost factor....if we're encouraging people to be accessing services, then those services need to be available."

The story mentioned that the Federal Health Minister will look at bringing stakeholders together early next year to create a more equitable system and ended with a brief discussion by The Project panel, with Hamish Macdonald mentioning that the cutting of the sessions actually went against the Better Access report to retain the extra 10 sessions.
