AAPi in the Media

Posted on 5 June 2023

AAPi's calls for higher Medicare rebates and mental health reform are highlighted in an ABC online story today.

Focusing on the Gold Coast, where a surging transient population and rising costs of living have widened mental health gaps, the story quotes AAPi Chief Services Officer Amanda Curran, who said people are really struggling to make ends meet.

"They're feeling increasingly stressed, they're feeling increasingly depressed and hopeless about their situation," she said.

The story also discusses the increased demand for psychology sessions since the pandemic, as highlighted in the McKell report; the rising costs of running a practice; and the need for a better supply of psychologists through universities.

"Ms Curran said there should be no differentiation (between clinical and registered psychologists) and the industry has lobbied the federal government to increase rebates for registered psychologists," the article reads.

"All psychologists have the same requirements. We would expect the same quality of care from all psychologists," she said.
