AAPi has received correspondence from the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, advising of the government’s decision to reduce the timeframe for submitting bulk billed Medicare claims, from two years to one year, effective 5 September 2025.
The change, introduced through amendments to the Health Insurance Act 1973 and Dental Benefits Act 2008, applies to both Medicare Benefits Schedule and Child Dental Benefits Schedule claims.
Services provided on or after 5 September 2025 must be claimed within one year, while services prior to that date can still be claimed within two years. Late lodgement applications remain available, but as most claims are already lodged within a year, the change is expected to have minimal impact on providers and no impact on patients.
