The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) has published an updated fee schedule for psychology and neuropsychology services, with new rates taking effect from 1 July 2026.
The update includes a significant increase to TAC-published fees, with the hourly rate rising from $202.20 to $250.00 per hour, inclusive of FY26/27 indexation. Travel rates will also align with treatment rates and be paid for the full travel time.
The revised schedule also introduces a new service and item number for attendance at TAC meetings, clearer item number descriptors, and updated rates intended to better align with reasonable market rates.
What providers need to do
- Continue using the current schedule for services delivered up to 11:59 pm on 30 June 2026.
- Use the updated codes and rates for all TAC client services delivered on or after 1 July 2026.
- Update billing systems to reflect the new rates and item numbers. TAC notes that HICAPS Digital will be updated to reflect the new fee schedule.
- Services delivered before 1 July 2026 can continue to be billed at current rates via HICAPS or manual billing for up to two years.
Neuropsychologists funded to develop or review behaviour support plans for restrictive practice purposes should ensure they use the relevant TAC item numbers. A new item number has also been added for travel related to restrictive practice behaviour support plans.
TAC has advised that there are no changes to the service approval process, and the update does not affect other TAC services or benefits.

Notes: Maximum payment rates for individual consultations, group consultations, travel, team meetings, restrictive practice behaviour support plans, and related travel are generally billed per hour in 15-minute increments (with sessions expected to generally go for an hour), subject to TAC approval where required. Group consultation rates are per person, with a maximum of ten patients in a group. Individual counselling for family members may be provided to an immediate family member of a person who dies or is severely injured as a result of a transport accident, including a spouse, partner, parent, child, sibling, grandparent or grandchild. These family counselling services are paid up to a total maximum allowance for the life of the claim and are billed in 15-minute increments, with an expected duration of up to one hour. Travel is only considered when the client is medically unfit to travel, telehealth is not appropriate, or treatment in the client’s functional environment is clinically justified.
