No. Registration as a psychologist is through the Psychology Board of Australia, and Medicare Provider registration is conditional on your registration as a Health Professional with the Psychology Board of Australia. Neither Medicare nor the Psychology Board of Australia mandate membership with any professional association, including the APS. Joining a professional psychology association like AAPi is entirely up to you - we're here if you need us, but the choice is all yours.

Your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) isn't tied to any professional association membership - it's all about your personal growth and learning. It's essential to keep track of your CPD hours, create a thoughtful learning plan, and record reflections for each CPD activity. Don't forget to keep those receipts for your CPD activities, as these will be required in the event of an audit by the Psychology Board of Australia.
Switched associations and worried about your CPD records? No worries! You can simply reach out to your previous association and request a copy of your CPD transcript.
As an AAPi member, you get exclusive access to our user-friendly and free CPD Log and Dashboard. It's designed to make your life easier by tracking your completed hours and showing you how many you have left. Plus, you can upload certificates and add attachments related to your CPD activities. It's all about making your CPD journey as smooth as possible.
Ever noticed how some insurers hike up the price for non-members, only to offer a 'member discount' that seems like a great deal? That's often just a tactic to make their sponsored membership appear more attractive.
At AAPi, we play a different game. We're all about transparency and integrity. As a not-for-profit membership association, we're driven by our values and led by our members. We're here for you, not for profit. That's why we offer our members access to genuinely discounted insurance through insurance.com.au. No gimmicks, no inflated prices - just honest, straightforward savings.

No. Endorsement is regulated by the Psychology Board of Australia (Ahpra). Both AAPi and APS are voluntary member associations.
The Psychology Board also answers this on their website:
What is the difference between the Board's requirements for endorsement and the APS requirements for College membership?
Professional titles associated with the nine approved areas of practice (e.g. Health Psychologist) are protected under the National Law. To use any of these protected titles, you must complete a Board-approved qualification relevant to the area of practice and a period of supervised practice in a Board-approved registrar program.
Becoming a member of the APS and joining one of nine APS colleges is optional. You may be able to complete a supervised practice program that meets the requirements for both area of practice endorsement and APS College Fellow concurrently. However, the Board and the APS are separate organisations and completion of the requirements for one will not automatically meet the requirements for the other.
The Board's requirements for endorsement are explained in the Area of practice endorsements registration standard and the Guidelines on area of practice endorsements.

There are various qualification pathways to becoming a registered psychologist: higher degree (Masters/PhD), 5+1 internship and 4+2 internship pathways. The Psychology Board of Australia set the minimum education and training standards as well as the standards that must be met in order to be granted provisional or general registration.
